Hunt Clark studied art at the University of Tennessee with a focus in painting and sculpture. In 1995 he moved to a remote location at the edge of the Cumberland Plateau where he shares his home and studio with artist Deborah McClary. He is a multi-media artist currently working in video installations and sculpture.

His experiential approach to the manifestation of his concepts has allowed him to transcend already established paths. In 1991 he developed a unique carving process and spent the next seventeen years exploring what it has to offer the wood medium. This dedication along with his unconventional perspective has unfolded into a compelling body of work.

In 1998 he expanded his carving process into the disciplined world of lutherie. As with carving the sculptural forms he starts with a green log carves the interior of the instrument first then removes the exterior to match. When completed the only seam is the joining of the top. The back, neck and sides are carved together from one piece of wood.

In his video installations he engineers electrically charged tracts and robotics to maneuver projections through the space projecting on objects such as wood, water, plastic and paper. In the summer of 2000 he collaborated with Deborah McClary to create unwilling nervous courage suggest forced emotional discipline, exhibited at the Georgia Museum of Art, this was the first time he combined his process of carving thin wood forms with his video projections.

What remains distinctive in his art is the ability to reveal idiosyncrasies in life and a willingness to allow his work to lead him into uncharted territories.

Hunt Clark is gaining a reputation for his distinctive style and unparalleled refinement of freeform carving. With no formal training in techniques of woodworking he approached the medium without the weight of tradition building his own vocabulary and understanding of the material. His sculptural forms evolved from a contemporary art background. He is a multi-media artist currently working in video installations and sculpture. He has also completed significant bodies of work in photography and painting. "It has been my objective as an artist to define myself by the results of my convictions and not by a medium."
